1 Season, 7 Episodes
A heartfelt comedy-drama that will bring you back home.
Yuval Nachshoni (Ido Katzir), 30, was born and raised in the desert town of Arad. A family tragedy caused him to leave the city, abandon his family and friends, and start a new life in Tel Aviv. After his Tel Aviv bar shuts down due to financial hardship, Yuval works as a Wolt delivery driver, trying to earn enough money to relaunch his business. Everything changes when he is forced to return to Arad to care for his injured grandfather, Shmulik (Sasson Gabay), with whom he has had a distant and strained relationship ever since he left town.
Returning home to Arad brings renewed encounters with childhood friends, a legendary ex-girlfriend, and most of all, with his grandfather or more precisely, with his grandfather’s longtime hobby: crafting strong, high-quality homemade arak based on a secret family recipe. Things become complicated when Aziz (Shadi Mar’i), the young and somewhat inept son of a Bedouin crime family, enters the picture. Against their will, Shmulik and Yuval find themselves partners in an illegal arak production business.
As if that weren’t enough, local police officers Orit and Benny (Lital Schwartz and Eli Haviv) begin sniffing around and discover that the small family operation might be the thread that leads them to a major crime family they have been trying to bring down for years.
Now, Yuval and Shmulik must put their grievances aside and work together to build a new business and rebuild an old family.
The series was written by Omri Amit and Adar Mirom, a native of Arad who moved to Tel Aviv. It was largely filmed in Arad itself and explores the search for home and family, questioning whether it is ever truly possible to disconnect from the place where you grew up and where the people you love remain ultimately proving that blood is thicker than arak.
